Internship Opportunities

Our Spring 2009 internship slots are full.

We are currently accepting applications for Summer 2009 internship placements. 

Please see below for specific opportunities.

The Baby Fold values the opportunity to assist in the education and career development of students that are preparing for work in the professions represented at The Baby Fold. Following are some of the opportunities available for internships at The Baby Fold.

Adoption Participate in preparing prospective adoptive parents for the adoption experience; assist children in learning about their past and help them prepare for adoption; help recruit adoptive families for children who are waiting for a family to call their own. (Summer only)

Adoption and Subsidized Guardianship Preservation Services Advocate for a child or youth that is struggling with identify issues or feelings of being detached from his or her adoptive family; lead support groups for children and teens who are searching for others who share their experience; learn the dynamics of families that have come together through adoption and subsidized guardianship. (Fall-Spring only, 2 semester placement)

Development and Public Relations - Learn about development and public relations at a non-profit organization by developing marketing tools, providing public relations, recruiting volunteers, and coordinating special events. (Fall semester only)

Foster CareLearn about case management, counseling, and advocacy services provided to children, birth parents, and foster parents within the child welfare system.  Supervise visits between foster children and their parents and siblings.  Provide mentoring and tutoring services to clients.  (All semesters)

Foster Home Licensing Help recruit families to become foster parents; assist in the preparation and support of foster families; supervise visits between foster children and their parents and siblings. (All semesters)

Healthy Start Actively participate in the lives of first-time or teenage parents by teaching child development and parent-child bonding activities, and by assisting them in accessing community resources; use family strengths as the basis for services. Services are provided in the family’s home.  (Summer semester only)

Human Resources - Learn first hand about basic human resources functions by assisting in the recruiting and hiring processes, creating and maintaining personnel files, employee recognition, workers' compensation, reception duties and general office tasks.  (All semesters)

Post-legal Adoption – Provide background letters to inquiring members of the adoption triad, provide mediation services for closed and semi-open adoptions, help complete searches with the caseworker, help compile client information in a database. (Summer semester only)

Pregnancy Counseling Learn about counseling and support services provided to an expectant mother, the father of the child, and other family members or significant others during pregnancy to assist them in their decision making related to the care of their child(ren). (Summer semester only)

Professional Foster Care Become involved in the care and treatment of children and youth with special behavioral and emotional needs; assist the children and youth in learning daily living skills and preparing for independent living.  Learn about case management, counseling, and advocacy services provided to children, birth parents, and foster parents within the child welfare system.  Supervise visits between foster children and their parents and siblings.  Provide mentoring and tutoring services to clients. (All semesters)

Residential Treatment Center Clinical Services - Participate in the treatment of children with severe emotional and behavioral problems; supervise visits between children and their families; help lead treatment groups; participate in individual and family therapy; assist with transitions into and out of the Residential Treatment Center; and learn about case management, treatment services and working with the child welfare system.  (Summer semester only)

Therapy - Work with therapists to provide a full array of services for clients served within the Foster Care program.  Observe and help lead groups for children and parents; provide support for the educational and recreational needs of clients; and facilitate family visitation for children in foster care.  (9 to 12-month placement, May or August 2009 to May 2010)
