HAMMITT JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
PART-TIME VOCATIONAL COACH
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Assists in instruction and implementation of the vocational program at Hammitt Junior-Senior High School. Assists students in obtaining their vocational objectives as outlined in their individual education programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists with planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of vocational education at Hammitt High School.
Teaches students the skills necessary to be successful on the job.
Provides assistance to students at vocational sites, in accordance with their individual education programs. Ensures that each student’s vocational instruction addresses the pre-vocational and vocational goals and objectives identified in their individualized educational program.
Transports students between Hammitt High School and vocational sites within the community.
Observes state and city speed and safety regulations and agency safety policies, including the use of safety restraint systems for driver and passenger(s).
Instructs students in social skills that relate to his or her Individualized Educational Program.
Implements the clinical behavioral treatment program according to guidelines, including individualized programming on the student’s IEP and crisis intervention.
Collects, prepares and presents data on students as required by the Hammitt High School program.
Works as a team member to ensure cooperation and consistency in the services provided to students.
Cooperates with the administrative, supervisory and support staff in planning for and scheduling programming and/or services for the students and/or their families.
Attends meetings as assigned.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with community employers for the purpose of maintaining work sites for Hammitt School students.
Contributes to quality improvement through active participation in Quality Improvement activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent with work experience in an educational, residential, or vocational setting, serving adolescents with disabilities.
One year of experience working with adolescents with learning and behavioral disabilities is preferred.
Certified and experienced in the effective application of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team structure.
Must meet DCFS driver eligibility requirements, including possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Ability to use one’s own vehicle to transport the assigned student. Must ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle that is used to transport the student.
Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.

WORK HOURS: 20 hours per week; 8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday following the Hammitt School calendar; pro-rated benefits available.
